今回は、ちゅんちゅん堂さん（会社の名前が可愛いすぎる！）が製造・販売されている宮城のお土産「仙台すずめ饅頭」をご紹介します！
仙台にゆかりが深い「すずめ」をモチーフにした、もちもち食感の可愛いお菓子です。

Shaped like a sparrow—an animal deeply connected with Sendai—this adorable treat has a delightfully chewy texture.
「仙台すずめ饅頭」とは？
「宮城県の偉人は？」と聞かれたら、仙台藩初代藩主の伊達政宗を思い浮かべる人が多いのではないでしょうか。
NHKの大河ドラマや、『戦国BASARA』などの戦国時代をモチーフにしたゲーム、アニメでたびたび取り上げられていて、戦国大名の中でも特にファンが多いイメージがありますね。
その伊達政宗が使用していた家紋の中でも特に有名なのが、「竹に雀」。
「仙台すずめ饅頭」は、この「竹に雀」の家紋をモチーフにして作られた仙台らしさあふれる銘菓です。
「仙台すずめ饅頭」の一番の魅力は、なんといっても、すずめが羽を広げて踊っているような可愛らしい見た目！
パッケージを開けた瞬間に、誰もが「可愛い〜」とメロメロになること間違いなしです。
見た目だけではなく、もちろん味も一級品。
タピオカ入りのもちもちの生地の中にずっしりと詰まっているのは、「こしあん」「ずんだ」「カスタードクリーム」の3種類です。
真偽は別として、「ずんだ」は伊達政宗が作ったという俗説が広く知られていますので、より仙台らしさを感じられる「ずんだ」味があるのは嬉しいですね♪

常温で持ち歩きもできるので、お土産として買いやすい商品です♪

What is “SENDAI SUZUME MANJU”?
Date Masamune, one of the most famous warlords of the Sengoku period, ruled the area that’s now Miyagi Prefecture.
He’s such a popular figure that you’ll often see him in Japanese anime and video games.
His family crest, called the “Bamboo and Sparrow,” was the symbol he used.
This souvenir was made with that very crest as its design motif!
The biggest charm of Sendai Sparrow Manju is definitely its adorable look—it’s shaped like a little sparrow spreading its wings as if it’s dancing!
Open the package, and you can’t help but say “So cute!”
But it’s not just about appearances—the taste is top-notch too.
Inside the chewy tapioca-mixed dough, you’ll find three delicious fillings: koshi-an (smooth red bean paste), zunda (sweet edamame paste), and custard cream.
“Zunda” is a green paste made from mashed edamame or broad beans, and it’s a local specialty of Miyagi Prefecture.
It’s considered a healthy ingredient and is very popular in Japan.
There’s even a well-known legend (though not historically proven) that Date Masamune himself invented zunda.
So, if you choose the zunda flavor, you’ll get an extra taste of Sendai’s local charm!
Best-by date
The shelf life of “SENDAI SUZUME MANJU” is 30 days from the production date.
Please store at room temperature, avoiding high heat and direct sunlight.
How many are in a pack?
Sendai Sparrow Manju are individually wrapped and comes in packs of 5, with each flavor available: koshi-an (smooth red bean paste), zunda, and custard cream.
If you just can’t decide which one to go for, there’s also a large box that includes 5 of each flavor—highly recommended if you want to try them all!
Where to Buy
“Chunchun-do,” the shop that sells Sendai Suzume Manju, operates two stores in Sendai City: the Sendai Castle Ruins Main Store and the S-PAL Sendai Store.
At the Sendai Castle Ruins Main Store, you can watch the manju being baked through a glass window, and even enjoy freshly fried “Age-Suzume” (deep-fried manju), as well as soft-serve ice cream and fruit sandwiches.
It’s definitely a spot worth visiting when sightseeing at Sendai Castle. For more details, be sure to check their official Instagram!
If you prefer to pick up souvenirs conveniently at the end of your trip, the S-PAL Sendai Store, directly connected to JR Sendai Station, is the perfect choice.
In addition to their own shops, Chunchun-do products are also available at the local supermarket Seisenkan Muranushi, which operates the brand, and at the Michinoku Date Masamune Historical Museum in Matsushima Town.

Miyagi Prefecture is the heart of the Tohoku region, offering plenty of sightseeing spots and delicious local cuisine.
